Mail IHG “Priceless Surprises” Entries by This Saturday

International Hotel Group’s “Priceless Surprises” promotion has an official (postmark) deadline of Monday, Feb. 15. However, that day is Presidents Day, a holiday for the U.S. Postal Service, so your 94 entries need to be mailed this week!

1 Week Left for an Easy 50,000 IHG Points

Priceless Surprises is one of the best deals going. Its implementation is almost certainly a financial mistake in the eyes of IHG but a boon for savvy consumers. Combining “Priceless Surprises” with IHG’s PointBreaks hotels, you can get a room in a Holiday Inn for $5 (five dollars) per night. I know it works…I’ve done it multiple times both in the United States and overseas.

Airline Miles and Hotel Points, What Are They Worth?

There is no universal answer, because the value of a point/mile depends strongly upon whether you prefer to fly Coach, Business or First Class; whether you prefer upscale or downmarket hotels; and whether you have status in a particular program.

Given all that, here is the updated list of values from The Points Guy:

How to Extend Life of Expiring IHG Hotel Points

You need activity every 12(?) months in your IHG points account, or all your points will evaporate. Activity can be either the addition or subtraction of points.

My solution would be to simply hand-write information on a 3×5 card and mail it in, as per the Priceless Surprises promotion. Each entry gets you 500 points, for which you would “spend” about 4 minutes and 51 cents (a 49-cent postage stamp + a card + an envelope).

It turns out that there are numerous other solutions, including purchasing a particular ebook for just 3 IHG points. See the list at

IHG Devalues Their Reward Points

Today the International Hotel Group did a stealth devaluation of IHG points, which previously were called Priority Club points. The number of points required for a room at about 200 hotels increased, the number at about 200 decreased, and the potential number of points required at their finest hotels (mostly Intercontinental brand) increased.

IHG operates hotels under several brands, including Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Intercontinental and Crowne Plaza.

This may be in reaction to their ongoing Priceless Surprises promotion, which gives 1000 IHG points for about $1. IHG also has PointBreaks promotion, which offers hotel rooms for only 5000 points per night. Do you see how those relate…you can get a room at a Holiday Inn for an incredibly low $5 per night.

I plan many of my vacations around PointBreaks hotels. In July I spent about a week in Liverpool, England, and earlier this month I stayed in Phoenix, AZ…all at PointBreaks hotels.

How to Get Your Free Breakfast at Hotels

Being able to go downstairs and eat a free breakfast in your hotel can save time (half an hour) and money ($20 for a couple, per day).

How to Get Free Breakfast at Hotels

This blogger has a collection of ideas for how to score a free breakfast. For example, stay at Holiday Inn Express (free breakfast) rather than Holiday Inn (no free breakfast).

This is good, money- and time-saving information.

IHG PointBreaks Map is Now Available on the Web

I always like the interactive IHG PointBreaks map. It gives me inspiration for where I need to visit.

The northernmost PB this time is in Helsinki (where it’s Winter / Spring), the southernmost is in Cordoba, Argentina (where it’s Summer / Fall). Note that Cordoba is on about the same latitude as south Texas.

A Reminder About the Almost-Free IHG Hotel Point Promotion

This is a wonderful promotion from International Hotels Group (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Intercontinental and other brands). If you combine this promo (49 cents for 500 points) with the PointBreaks promo (rooms for 5000 points/night), you can get a great room for as little as $5 per night.
