Many retirees would like to keep their minds sharp by taking classes in something new, like painting (looking at you, George W. Bush) or geology or t’ai chi or Spanish. Lifetime Learning Institute is Austin’s best program for this, and enrollment for the Spring semester is open now at lliaustin.org.
Most courses consist of classes held weekly for 8 weeks. Enrollment costs just $20 per course (equals $2.25 per week, an outstanding bargain). The teachers are mostly experts in their fields, and the rooms are provided free by local churches and activity centers.
The Spring catalog lists 77 courses, including several levels of Spanish, Italian, French and German; several styles of yoga and t’ai chi; several types of fabric work; genealogy; story writing and numerous other pursuits.
You can enroll at lliaustin.eventbrite.com , but don’t delay because many / most classes fill up fast.
